John A. Holsenback

With great sadness, the family of John A. Holsenback announces his passing on April 10, 2011. He is survived by his beloved wife Karen, his sister Kay, her husband Don, sons Dan and Steven, Steven’s wife Heather, his stepdaughter Marnelle, and he was the proud “Pop Pop” of Calvin, Elena and Beau, as well as a steadfast friend and mentor of many. John Holsenback began his career of public service with the United States Navy. He served aboard the USS Blenny, a Balao-class submarine, the USS Power, a Gearing-class destroyer, and finished his enlistment as an MM2 on board Diodon SS-349 home-ported in San Diego.

Born in Augusta, GA, John Holsenback put down roots in Imperial Beach, CA, where in September of 1968 he began a 28-year public safety career (firefighter to chief ’68 to ’81, then public safety director from ’82 to ’96).

All those who knew and loved John will feel his loss, including his Georgia, Canadian and Australian families. John lived by credo, “The really important things in life can’t be said, only shown,” but he was known for his dry one-liners. A memorial service is being planned for May. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, donations may be made to The American Heart Association, A Passion for Paws, Inc., or any other charitable organization dear to you.
