PAST PRESIDENT:

LCDR. William Ray Mitchell (Ret.) 1936 - 2010

MITCHELL, WILLIAM RAY, LCDR, US NAVYr passed away on ThursdaYr June 3r 2010. He was born July 14r 1936 in McLean Countyr ILr the son of the late Raymond Mitchell and Sarah Lee Mitchell. LCDR Mitchell was currently the president of the USS Power (DD-839 ) Shipmate Society. Other ships that Mitchell served aboard are the USS Rasher (submarine)r USS Goodrich and USS the William V. Pratt. Mitchell served aboard Long Beach as operations manager for Group Commanderr Pacificr and also served as aide de camp to the Commander All Naval Forces Vietnam. Mitchell's shore command was the Naval Ocean Systems Centerr Point Lomar CA.

After retiring from the NavYr Mitchell was employed with Lockheed-Martin as manager of Software Development and held that title until his retirement.

LCDR !\1itchell was a Kentucky Colonelr a member of the Military Officers of Americar Military Officers of the World Warsr a graduate of the University of Colorado and a graduate of the master's degree program in electrical engineering from the ~stgraduate Schoolr MontereYr CA. Bill Mitchell's favorite hobbies were woodworking and word working of cross­ word puzzles.

His parents; and his sisterr Mary Emily Mitchell-Ashenbremerr preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife of 48 yearsr Mary Ann Carrico-Mitchell RN BS; and his three childrenr Michael (Carrie) Mitchell of Scottsdaler AZr Anne Marie Mitchell-Howard (Gary) of Sedaliar CO and Kate Mitchell-Hettinger (Trey) of Louisville. He is also survived by seven grandchildrenr Kelly and Kyle Mitchellr Mitchell and Savannah Howard, Sarah Lorrainer Joseph and John Samuel Hettinger and a brother Franklyn (Dottie) Mitchell of Bloomingtonr IL.

LCDR Mitchell will be laid to rest in Arlington National Cemeteryr Arlingtonr VA at a later date. Ratterman'sr 3711 Lexington Road was entrusted with arrangements.

**** Editors Note: I called Bills home on June 7th to talk to Bill and Mary Ann told me the news about Bill... I only knew Bill for about 4 Years, in that time I looked up to him as a leader. I will miss him and remember him, even thought our friendship was short.
